What do I do if I know I am going to miss a day of school?
A note or a phone call is always good to let me know. If you are going to miss multiple days of school, I would appreciate at least a weeks notice, so I can get the work ready for you. I like to gather your assignments and have them ready for you ahead of time. I find that it is less stressful. Falling behind in your work is never fun and can cause stress. Feel free to ask for your work ahead of time so that you can complete the assignments before returning to school.
What if I missed a day of school because I was sick or had an appointment?
The best thing is to come to me in the morning and we will figure out what you need to make up. Worksheets or assignments will be collected for you and left at your seat. We will then make a plan to get the work done. If you feel up to doing a little work in bed or on the couch while you are resting, you can call the school and I can have the assignments either waiting in the office for you or I can try to send them home with a sibling, neighbor, or friend so that you can pick them up easily.
What if I need help on an assignment?
Again, let me know in the morning. We can find time during the school day or we can schedule a separate time before or after school. I am always available to help you and want you to feel successful! If you are finding that the assignments are difficult or that you just don't understand them, all you have to do is ask for help and advocate for yourself.
What are second grade buddies?
In second grade the kids have a buddy for recess and lunch. They play with their buddy for the first five minutes of recess and sit together at lunch. We have a chart to help us decide whose turn it is and the buddies alternate who picks what to play and where to sit each day. New buddies are picked every two weeks. Our buddy system is working really well for us and the kids really like it! It helps us get to know all of our second grade friends!
